Craft Yarn Council to share creative ways to craft from home for April Stitch Away Stress campaign

Carrollton, TX (April 1, 2020) - With everything going on in the world, now is the perfect time for people to flex their creative muscles and get to crafting. Skills like knit and crochet are fun for people of all ages as they practice social distancing by staying home.

Each year in April, the Craft Yarn Council shares its Stitch Away Stress campaign to educate people about the wellness benefits of yarn crafts. Throughout the month of April this year, CYC will share statistics and research taken from past surveys to encourage people to be creative at home with yarn crafts.

“We hope to provide inspiration and activities anyone can do from home right now,” said Jenny Bessonette, executive director of the Craft Yarn Council. “Ninety-four percent of people we surveyed last year reported that yarn crafts help them relax and we know a lot of people need relaxing activities right now.”

CYC will also promote a new survey, which is currently available online, asking people how they feel about their own creativity and how they use yarn to relieve stress. The results of the survey will be shared on social media after the campaign wraps up.

Past research by CYC has shown what many makers already know: yarn provides many amazing wellness benefits. Last year’s self-care survey showed that 97 percent of knitters and crocheters use yarn crafts to slow down and 94 percent engage in yarn crafts as a form of self-care. In other surveys, CYC has found that 85 percent of knitters and crocheters experience reduced stress with their craft, 68 percent experience an improved mood after they knit or crochet and 93 percent experience a feeling of accomplishment.

Follow along on Facebook and Instagram throughout the month to learn about the positive wellness benefits of yarn crafts and how you can get involved! Snap photos of the creative projects you’re doing at home and post them on social media using #StitchAwayStress.
